School’s Out: Healthy Summer Snacks For Kids

Now that the school term has ended for the summer season, you may be looking for some new and healthy snacks to keep the little ones fit and full of energy. We’ve made a handy list of healthy snacks you can make at home for the kids during these (hopefully) hot summer months.
Yoghurt Covered Strawberries
Super simple and incredibly tasty, take a tub of your favourite natural yoghurt, some strawberries and a generous dollop of honey. Of course you can substitute the strawberries for raspberries, blackberries or any other type of berry you want!
Homemade Icepops
Another delicious snack that’s very easy to make, all you need is some icepop makers, fruit juice and your favourite fruits. We recommend adding some chopped apples, pineapple slices, and a chopped banana to orange juice for a truly tasty treat. Cut the fruit into small pieces, add the fruit juice and let the icepops freeze for 3 - 4 hours.
Snack Sticks
There’s a load of yummy foods you can use for this such as carrots, cheese, apples, pretzel sticks and whole wheat bread. Cut the ingredients into thin and long slices, and add a small scoop of low-fat humus for a fun and healthy snack.
Cracker Sandwiches
These are great, and again you have a wide selection of healthy foods to include. Try adding slices of cheese, folded slices of ham and a little butter to some Ritz crackers for a quick and easy ham and cheese sandwich.
Frozen Bananas with Peanut Butter
Delicious, healthy and a hit with children and adults alike. Simply cut the banana into small slices and leave to freeze in a small food bag. Frozen bananas are great on their own, but we recommend adding a small topping of crunchy peanut butter to really wow your kid
These are just some of our favourite healthy summer snacks. Next time you’re in the area pop in for a coffee and let us know how you got on with them! Remember, you can book a table online or by calling us on (045) 893 222.
